Què més podria caldre?

Vaig créixer en territori de boira i és un dels meus fenòmens meteorològics preferits. On visc ara no és gaire comú que n’hi hagi, però hi ha neu (tot i que gairebé gens aquest any, de moment) i moltes hores de sol sense morir-se de calor, i això també m’agrada. Fa uns dies, però, que s’ha instal·lat una boira gebradora que no ens deixa veure el sol. Si a Bend ja m’hi sento com a casa, aquests dies encara una mica més.

Crec que potser feia uns cinc anys que no posava benzina a menys de $3 per galó. No durarà.

Fa força anys que porto una càmera al cotxe enregistrant continuament el camí que vaig fent. M’agrada saber que podré conservar la memòria digital d’un moment si trobo alguna cosa curiosa mentre condueixo, si passo per un lloc molt bonic, si fa una nevada d’època, o si per qualsevol altre motiu vull tenir un enregistrament de part d’un trajecte. De fet, tinc força clips que he anat guardant al llarg del temps.

Blogging just for the sake of it, without caring a bit about anyone’s interest in what I post, is a return to a freedom I had not felt for a long time. If someone reads it and is interested, great; if not, who cares? Satisfaction lies in just expressing oneself. La sorra del terra és la cendra de quan Mount Mazama va explotar i va acabar esdevenint Crater Lake, l’únic parc nacional que hi ha ha Oregon i el llac amb més profunditat dels Estats Units. Les formacions de lava són de quan va reventar el Badlands Volcano, l’origen del qual és la Caldera de Newberry. Newberry encara és activa ara mateix i un dia podria enterrar Bend, i per tant, casa nostra (tot i que preferiria que no passés).

Whose taste is it anyway, by Greg Morris, about how the current internet algorithms affect the content we consume: You’re not seeking things out or deciding what you want to consume. You’re just accepting whatever appears in the feed. The algorithm does all the work, and you scroll. We’ve been outsourcing things to the internet for years now. First it was memory. Why bother remembering facts when you can just look everything up?

Avui per començar el dia no hem pogut evitar passar per sobre d’una capsa de cargols que a algú li havia caigut (assumeixo que no era intencional) a un carrer del poble. Sense fer-hi una mirada exhaustiva, he comptat que la roda ha agafat com a mínim 6 cargols (actualització: eren 9). Al taller he demanat que mirin si es pot reparar, però essent realista, ara estic esperant la trucada on em diran que el pneumàtic no es pot salvar… el que implica que haurem de comprar-ne quatre de nous.

Com cada desembre, aquest cap de setmana el tió que ens ha visitat els últims quatre o cinc anys es va presentar a la porta de casa. No té cap nom especial, només és un tió, però com que va néixer dins una familia de juniperus occidentalis, a efectes d’aquesta nota l’anomenaré Juni. En Juni no ha tingut una vida fàcil. En són testimonis les ferides que té als laterals del seu cos: a la foto es veuen marques de larves que el devien fer servir d’aliment per desenvolupar-se en una altra cosa; l’altre llom, que no ensenyaré perquè no vull ferir sensibilitats, és tot una gran escorxadura que en el seu moment va haver de ser molt dolorosa.

2025 is about to end, and my wife has decided this year’s Advent calendar will feature a daily question for each of us at home to answer. I don’t care about Advent calendars, and I don’t feel I have the energy to play that game right now, but she wanted me to be involved and make it a family thing, so I guess I’m in. The second question she asked was: What is something you have learned this year?
